Nothing has improved and we are suffering just as much as we did a few months ago.
My friend Jean-Philippe Gauthier agrees. He was here by our house this morning. Came by Versailles to get some grain he had said. Kind man he is, he brought us some good food from his farm! Just when we were running out of food! I must thank him again later before he leaves Versailles. He also brought news about a group called Jacobins that wanted a new government. Apparently, they decided to try the royal family for treason! Interesting I must say. Many of the nobles have already left France, or are about ready to depart France due to the revolution which turns into something bigger day by day. The King and Queen are now back at Paris, after trying to escape from house arrest. From what I heard they dressed as servants. Servants! The King and Queen! Definitely must have been a funny sight. I regret not being able to see it. Imagine, the King and Queen dressed without laces and fancy colorful cloth and jewelry! Today Mr. René Bousquet stopped by our shop to get some new lace for his fancy shirt. He was completely rude and arrogant. Out of all the nobles I have met, I don’t think I have met anyone so disrespectful to us peasants. He just treated me and mother terribly! I felt terrible just watching, unable to speak up. Which gets me thinking, why did I not speak up? It is the time of the revolution and change is being made. I don’t really need to cower in fear in front of the nobles anymore do I? Yet since the financial crisis in France does not seem to be changing.. I fear that I may be unable to take action or speak up until the economy improves.. After all, I must please my customers in order to make money and feed my family. Don’t want anyone else ending up dead like poor little Thomas. Oh how I miss him. Thomas didn’t deserve to die. I really just hope something good comes out of this revolution. A constitution would be nice. Faster the better. Sure, the rich may be our customers, but hardly anyone stops by to buy from us peasants. The nobles really just try to avoid us as much as possible these days. Oh, how I wish something could be done about this chaos.
